Many of the spaces at Blackwell Grange date back hundreds of years and have been lovingly updated to bring them into the 21st century. Our aim is always to embrace the heritage of this wonderful home, one of the most beautiful wedding venues in the Cotswolds.
Named after William’s Grandpa’s old potting shed, the Potting Shed is now an imaginatively warm and inviting, fun space in which you and your bridesmaids can prepare for the day ahead. While its current use resembles very little of its former life, you might spot a few cleverly up-cycled pieces of furniture and lighting. The make-up table has been made using some of the wooden pallets that the building supplies were stored on during the renovation. One of the old farm ladders is the showcase of the overhead lighting incorporating some of William’s grandparents flower pots that are now lights. There's a hint of nature too, with a calming colour palette of grey, white, terracotta, copper and pale pink.
Today, features include a luxurious, generously-sized shower room, a main room with three well-lit makeup stations and an additional room. You will also find full-length mirrors in the encaustic tiled entrance porch and space to hang dresses on vintage saddle racks and bridle hooks.
Soft seating includes an antique settle, modern white tractor stools and Herringbone patterned footstools around the coffee table. Sheepskin rugs, tweed check curtains and plenty of cushions and wool blankets create a cosy space, the perfect place to relax with your bridesmaids before your ceremony.
The Bridal Porch is a separate room in the Potting Shed, dedicated to the bride. You might, perhaps, like to have your own dressing room with full-length mirrors. This room also has a dresser, housing a kettle, toaster, fridge and microwave, should you fancy more than a glass of chilled bubbly while you get ready.
The Potting Shed and Bridal Porch are available to you throughout the day. Many couples offer the Potting Shed as a quiet space for guests. Parents of babies often appreciate a private retreat, as do elderly guests. In the Bridal Porch, you might choose to leave any essentials with which to freshen up as and when you please. The registrar may meet with you here before your ceremony and complete any necessary paperwork.
